This post got me thinking about an old TV show I saw. A woman was proud of her great great grandfather because he was supposed to be a civil-war hero. She did some researching and found that he was tried and convicted for treason because her great great grandfather tried to desert the army disguised as a woman wearing a flag as a dress..
... I mean, dude, if you don't want to die in the service, don't join. It's as simple as that...
